Frederick T. Sheldon

Dr. Frederick "Rick" T. Sheldon is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Idaho, bringing more than 35 years of leadership spanning academia, industry, and the non-profit sectors. His research sits at the critical convergence of software engineering and information assurance, actively leveraging data science, machine learning, and deep learning architectures. Dr. Sheldon's enterprise focuses on solving complex global cyberspace problems, including AI security, cyber-physical system (CPS) resiliency, deception technologies, and trust/explainability in machine learning. His deep domain expertise further extends to operational security (OpSec), embedded avionics, smart city IoT infrastructure, and cryptographic key management. Previously a Senior Research Scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, his pioneering contributions have been recognized with the Sigma Xi Research Award, the UT-Battelle Key Contributor Award, and the prestigious R&D 100 Award. Dr. Sheldon is a Life Senior Member of both the IEEE and ACM, and a member of the ASEE. He holds two Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, as well as an MS and PhD in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Arlington.
